Baseball Season Is Over—I’ve Got the Shakes!

No more baseball is pretty darn depressing!

This time last week I was reveling in Giants baseball. It was glorious watching them WIN.

Today I went grocery shopping. Not so glorious. I’ve got the “post-division playoffs/post-pennant race/post-World Series blues.” (Is that a song title?)

Now what am I supposed to do? Vacuum? Ha!

I think I was a tad more than usual emotionally invested in the Giants this year. I think it was a sign of the times. (NO, not the obnoxious Phillis fans’ signs!) I wanted them to win so bad because then I felt better about the world in general—and my life in particular. Life ain’t easy. Neither was the Giants team trying to put together a winning season. The torment was real!

When you listen to baseball games night after night, it’s addictive. (Also romantic–see my blog below). It’s hard to let it go…

This week I have been listening to KNBR Sports Radio guys reminisce about the Giants amazing season and prognosticate about next year. Who will be back? Who will bolt? Who has to go on a diet STAT. And who might be a new face in orange, black, and cream?

If I were running the show, I would bring everyone back (especially ALL the pitchers and relievers) EXCEPT Renteria. He’s not worth $10 million. I also wouldn’t want him interfering again with Timmy’s chance of being voted the World Series MVP.

Timmy Lincecum Baseball Season Is Over—Ive Got the Shakes!

Giants Ace Pitcher Tim Lincecum waves to fans during the Giants Victory Parade in San Francisco on November 3, 2010.

I think Lincecum deserved the MVP title. Naysayers said he wasn’t dominant enough in Game One. Oh brother. Who do you think the Rangers feared more? Who is overall more consistent? Who inspired his teammates more? Who is more freaky-fun to watch in a game? Who has a fiercer aura? (Check out the YouTube video below.)

Lincecum is like Mickey Mantle—even his aura has an aura. He is a catalyst for a winning mindset—like a contagious superbug the whole team catches.

Tim Lincecum being interviewed at AT&T Ballpark after the Giants win Game No. 162 against the San Diego Padres to clinch the National League Western Division title.

I think the voters of the MVP purposely didn’t give it to Lincecum because they did not want to embolden him any more than he already is. They did not want to boost his perception among his opponents as a force of nature to be reckoned with.

So we’ll just have to wait until next year’s World Series—probably after enduring another season of ‘the agony and the ecstasy.’

In the meantime, I’m planning a road trip to Scottsdale, AZ to catch a spring training game. It’s only 728 miles from my house. Heck, maybe I could take in a game in-between doing a load of laundry and dusting the living room.

Sounds like a plan!
