Apply AAPS Every Day – Let’s Start a Movement

Two days ago I wrote about the AAPS. I am convinced we need to integrate this app into our daily life in America iPod.

In case you missed it: AAPS are Average Americans Protecting Society. Here’s what we want:

All institutions in the U.S.A. (Congress, White House, government agencies, corporations, health care industry, financial sector, educational organizations, etc.) are to put the best interests and welfare of the American People first and foremost and ahead of themselves.

Too many times (all the time?) SELF-INTEREST rules the day instead of what’s best for average Americans. The American Establishment has gone down this road for so long we’re used to it. We’re so used to getting screwed by the Big Guys we feel powerless to do something about it. We’re so used to getting whupped we’ve become complacent.

Credit card companies jack up their rates because Congress cares more about Banks than they do about Americans and lets them do it. Medical costs continue to skyrocket because insurance companies care more about their profits than they do about the health of Americans and no one stops them.

Here’s another example from an article in the NY Times this week about a company in South Dakota called Beef Products, Inc. (gee, that’s original). This company found a way to use “beef parts” that were formerly unusable.

The beef parts in question are the “fatty trimmings” that are cut off the beef during processing and disposed of because they “have been found to be contaminated with bacteria,” such as E coli and salmonella. But BFI decided to inject the beef trimmings with AMMONIA, which kills contaminants.

The ammonia-filled beef is then mixed with other ground beef, creating more product to sell and thus more profit. This injected ground beef is sold to hamburger makers, fast-food chains such as McDonald’s and Burger King, and the federal school lunch program.

On a common sense level, does it make sense to put a caustic chemical like ammonia in FOOD? Would you drink a glass of ammonia? How about a tablespoon full? Do you want this chemical in your food? (BTW, it has been reported that ammonia added to meat does change the flavor of meat – duh – and changes the consistency to a pink slime. So appetizing.)

Why is this chemical in your food? Because the USDA does not require labeling of the ammonia as an ingredient. If the USDA does not require the labeling of ammonia, how would a consumer know how much is actually in the product? How would a consumer know if this is too much?

Who is the USDA supposed to protect? Businesses or us?

Why don’t we have better food labeling laws in this country? Because Congress cares more about the lobbying money it gets from businesses than they care about the American people. The USDA also doesn’t require the listing of chemicals in chicken. What chemicals are in chicken? Who knows?

Do you see this situation improving?

I don’t.

As a society we’re so overworked, overwrought, and overstressed in our ordinary lives that we barely have the energy to run our lives. I think The Powers That Be count on us being worn out. We’re easier to manipulate and dupe in that condition.

But America needs to reverse course. We were promised hope and change. That didn’t work out. Now what?

We need to wrestle our country back from THE HAVES.

WE the PEOPLE need to speak up and demand that the SPIRIT of AAPS be employed by every entity that deals with the American public.

We need to scream, “AAPS!”

We need to cry, “AAPS!”

If we are too tired, we can whisper, “AAPS.”

If enough “AAPS” are heard from sea to shining sea, then once again we can sing with pride, “This land is OUR land. This land is YOUR land.”

P.S. Check out the third verse to “America the Beautiful.” It’s a more poetic way to implement AAPS.

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife.

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!
