3. To Ye Ol’ Hubby Man: Happy Anniversary to us!

In spite of ourselves, we’ll wind up a sittin’ on a rainbow. Against all odds, honey, we’re the big door prize.

We’re gonna spite our noses right off of our faces. There won’t be nuthin’ but big ol’ hearts dancin’ in our eyes.

[Lyrics from a realistic romantic song written by John Prine.]

Here’s the Valentine’s Day/Anniversary dinner menu at my house tonight—for the cooking impaired. All you need to know how to do is open a package and turn on an oven and WHAA-LA!

Pie Champagne Chicken pot Pie 300x163 February 14th A Great Day to Celebrate

Chicken Pot Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, and Champagne

This is the chicken pot pie from Harry and David’s mail order company that Oprah raved about on her show. I’ve been dying to try it. It cost $20 plus $10 shipping. It came in a nifty styrofoam box with dry ice pellets to keep it frozen. I’ll post my review later. Claim Jumper’s coconut cream pie is truly scrumptious. Likewise for Barefoot Bubbly’s delectable Brut Cruvee champagne—especially at $8 per bottle.

Pop that cork and enjoy the culinary delight while listening to the classic duet of John Prine and Iris DeMent singing, “In Spite of Ourselves.”

Speaking of romantic songs, here’s one of my favorites: Extreme’sMore than Words” [written by Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt, recorded in 1990].

Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
Cos I’d already know…

Hold me close don’t ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
Cos I’d already know.

Take a listen, FuchsiaWomen, and get ready to swoon!

  • Happy Valentine’s Day, girl. You’re so funny. Chicken pot pie, coconut creme pie and champagne…My honey and I are going out for dinner, gettin’ all gussied up and all. Good for the soul once a year or so. And he’s getting a homemade Valentine and a foot massage (shhhhh, don’t tell) when we get home .
