Kate Middleton: Hat Lady Extraordinaire

One reason I like Kate Middleton is because she likes hats—and wears them.

She also seems down-to-earth, except when she wears flamboyant fascinators. Then I like her even more.

Here are my favorites: the periwinkle blue wallpaper-print dress and matching fascinator:

The cream colored brocade coat and feather fascinator:

I love fascinators. I have a collection of the “real” kind and several headband styles. I rarely wear them outside—as I don’t live in England or attend polo matches. But I’m ready–just in case. While writing at home, I do wear them with my Lincecum jersey—the KEY to my stellar prose!

Here are my fascinators—modeled by Roni, who I think looks like the TV show character Veronica Mars. Since she is only a half-person, she gets half the name.

Number 11: This last one looks like one that Kate Middleton might wear.

Fascinators Number 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11 were hand-made by Anne at Baskers Designs from Revesby, Australia that I purchased on EBay. I think Baskers’ fascinators are the most creative (and affordably-priced) on EBay.  Here’s the store link:

Next up: Fascinators I made myself. I’m not a crafty person but they turned out OK. Stay tuned…

Happy Fascinating!

  1. Woo hoo! More on fascinators. Not only do you have a stunning collection but Roni has an amazing collection of wigs! Can’t wait to see the ones you made. Did you see the funny video from the UK on my blog on fascinators where the wacky lady shows how to make them (at the races, no less).

This was a fun post and a great way to end a long day. Thanks.

  2. #2…the green one would have looked sensational with the vintage green brooch that you sent to me….you did see it in the pictures, didn’t you. It was quite FABULOUS. FYI, I recorded the Royal Wedding on NBC and ABC so that I could watch it when I returned home. Queen Sophia of Spain ( yes, Rafa’s Queen) was in attendance. She is cousin to Queen Elizabeth II. I too loved all of the hats.
