Today I caught up reading all the newspapers I missed due to my exile in OC at my Dad’s place. Boy, a lot happened while I was gone! Doesn’t America ever sleep? My Dad reads no newspapers. Says they’re full of bad news and he doesn’t want to have to pay to read about it. He has a point.
But he does listen at ear-splitting volume to Rush and Fox TV—for hours on end—simultaneously while he follows me around the house bashing one of the “lousy Democrats” in Congress. When these media devices were off, I had to listen to my Dad relentlessly slam President Obama.
I’m a registered Independent and voted for Obama. My Dad, a life-long militant Republican, voted for McCain—and that was only because Dick Nixon wasn’t on the ticket. If I heard “Hot Air Politician” once I heard it as many times as “Have you seen my tomatoes?” Consequently I was in hyper cognitive dissonance mode for days on end.
Not that my Dad influenced me at all, but I have to say, he had a point about Obama and all his high-falutin’ talk.
Sad for me to say but I admit it. I have become unenamored of our POTUS. This sinking feeling has been coming on for months. I am almost at the point when I listen to him—and I used to like his voice—I can barely tolerate it. Did any of his economic appointments rein in the Wall Street greed that has crippled our country? Are American’s financial futures getting back on track? Where are the jobs? Where are the homes for our homeless Veterans? How about bailing out small banks or food banks? How about small businesses, public schools, New Orleans? What’s up with ignoring gay rights?
President Obama: Your health care “reform” bill is a joke. There’s nothing reforming about it. It’s keep the insurance and drug companies happy legislation (wouldn’t want to lose those lobbyist contributions) at the expense of average Americans. It also punishes healthy people WHO DON’T WANT HEALTH INSURANCE and makes them pay for people who need it because they don’t take care of their own health. Teach people how to take care of their own health and the health of their families. In the long run, it’s way cheaper. And better for America if Americans live a healthier life.
We don’t need reform. We need a health care revolution: Change our health care system to focus on helping Americans stay well. Where is the program to show Americans how eating 200 pounds of sugar a year is the fastest way to become unhealthy? Where’s the program to eliminate bovine growth hormones in beef as they harm the endocrine systems of the American people? Where’s the program to end smoking once and for all?
Oh, yeah, you’re a smoker. Have you heard that smoking is ruinous to one’s health? Kinda hypocritical that a smoker is telling others about health care, dontcha think? I don’t have health insurance because I don’t want it and I’m sure as heck NOT paying for yours because you are too stupid to stop smoking. (Is there such thing as a “smart smoker?”) (BTW, why not ask the Mrs. how appealing smoker’s breath is.)
President Obama: You need to teach, show, and help. Don’t wait until Americans get sick and then charge them an obscene amount to provide medical services. The focus of health care should be in prevention—not as a way to make big pharmaceuticals, giant food manufacturers, and insurance providers richer than Wall Street bankers. Oh, I forgot. There’s no money in prevention. And it’s always about the money, isn’t it?
Phew—there’s a FW rant for you. But, wait, I’m not finished…
Where was I? Oh, yeah. President Obama. Not real thrilled with you, buddy. You always say you get it. Well, get this: Americans are sick of bailing out the self-serving morons who have screwed up this country. You need to quit being a politician and BE A MAN. I’d like to see you kick the butts of corrupt big business, big pharma, big financial institutions, big insurance companies, big energy, big food manufacturers, idiotic regulators, idiotic government agencies, and any other entity that sticks it to the less powerful in our society.
I want America to still be the land of opportunity and prosperity FOR ALL—not just the HAVES. Us HAVE NOTS have had it with politicians’ self-interest in maintaining the status quo in Washington. Can we all scream TERM LIMITS? I guess not if we’re too sick, too poor, and too stressed.
News alert: The status quo in Washington is NOT WORKING for the average American.
President Obama: Weren’t you supposed to be a different type of leader—like FOR the people? Weren’t you supposed to be about fundamental change?
Well? Where’s the change we can believe in?
The title of the Huff Post today was: “Obama One Year Later: The Audacity of Winning vs the Timidity of Governing.”
President Obama: Didn’t your pals Rev. Jeremiah Wright or Pastor Rick Warren ever tell you about 2 Timothy 1:7?
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. (NIV)
Well? Where’s yours?
President Obama: Rhetoric is not action. We can’t eat hope. Let’s see some fortitude and stand up to special interest groups. I swear I thought you had it in you. If not, I guess in a few years the people will try someone new. Because as you know, Yes We Can.
The inaugural blog for my site FuchsiaWoman.com was titled: “President Obama: You Hoodwinked Me.”
Do I have to say it again?
P.S. Thanks to Rob Rogers for the funny cartoon and for providing me with my headline.
