WEAR “Eat Pray Love”??

And the winner of the MOST WAYS to MERCHANDISE a MOVIE goes to….

I know about reading Eat Pray Love, the blockbuster bestseller by Elizabeth Gilbert. I enjoyed the book—especially Part 1 about Liz’s trip to Italy. It’s full of travel adventure, learning a new language, making new friends, discovering oneself. It’s the section where she gained so much weight eating delish pasta dishes and pastries and had to buy a whole new wardrobe. (FUN!)

Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling book about a woman's search for everything!

It’s also the section where Liz explained about how difficult it was for her get a divorce (from a vindictive husband not wanting one) in NY. Ugly divorce stories where the woman triumphs (for a change) always cheer me up! [Moral of the story…next time, get married in California or Texas.]

I also know about watching Eat Pray Love, the upcoming movie (based on the book—DUH), starring Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem, and James Franco. I’ve seen the trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZzmqHJ0gPU

Can’t wait for the movie. It  opens August 13, 2010.

Eat Pray Love tunes from around the world.

I know about hearing Eat Pray Love the movie soundtrack—available now on iTunes. It’s quite a hodgepodge of musical genres, such as Brazilian samba, American classic rock, folk/roots/pop, German opera, Indian sitar, soul/r&b, funkadelic, and others. The single is a song by Eddie Vedder called “Better Days.” Good song—kinda Springsteenish.

But I DID NOT know about WEARING Eat Pray Love.

There are two ways to “wear” the book. First, there are the fashions, based around Liz’s travels in India and Indonesia. The clothing line is designed by Sue Wong and will be sold in upscale retailers like Nordstrom, Saks, and Neiman Marcus. I’m not nuts about the Eastern influence in fashion. Too muu-muu-ish to me.

Too bad there aren’t any Italian fashion to coincide with the movie. After all, Milan is the fashion capital of the world. There are incredible Italian haute couture designers, like Prada, Versace, Balenciaga, Armani, Valentino. These designers are WAAAAY OUT of my pocketbook range—unless I get a steal on EBay. But a girl can dream….

Lastly, I did not know you could wear the SMELL of Eat Pray Love.

Eat Pray Love: Smell like the book!

A company called Fresh has produced fragrances (cologne for $32 and scented candles) inspired by the book/movie. I had to look up what “Eat” could possibly smell like. The Fresh website says it:

“celebrates the sweetness of Italy’s famous desserts and wines, with notes of bright lemon and basil balanced by creamy cannoli, caramel, meringue, and vanilla that is topped off with sparkling Prosecco and Limoncello.”

Sounds like people might want to drink it.

I won’t be wearing the fashion or the fragrances. As far as merchandising goes, I’m waiting for the Eat Pray Love TV dinners.
